Tegenwoordig zijn er niet veel bands meer die nog het echte rock’n’roll-leven leiden. Maandenlang touren, met z’n vieren in één camper, een steeds wisselend rooster van groupies. The Gulls leven ‘on the road’ en zijn momenteel waarschijnlijk een van de gekste bands in Europa, daarbij gaat het gerucht dat de Limburgse whiskyvoorraad al gevaarlijk lage niveaus begint te bereiken……

Ze kwamen voor het eerst naar poppodium Volt in 2020 en verkochten een zittende show in het hart van de pandemie uit. Dat klopt, The Gulls waren zelfs op dat moment aan het touren in hun camper! Het was een avond vol eclectische rock, folk en blues, vol verhalen over geheime concerten in de Duitse bossen en grensoverschrijdend smokkelen.

In april van dit jaar, in het Verenigd Koninkrijk, bracht de band hun unieke benadering naar een nieuw niveau. Door ongeoorloofde concerten op straat en op het strand te spelen, slaagde de band erin een konvooi te creëren dat met hen door het land reisde. Het was een experiment om spontaniteit en opwinding terug te brengen in livemuziek, en ze slaagden er zelfs in om geld in te zamelen voor een goed doel. Op sommige momenten waren er meer dan 20 mensen opgestapeld in hun nederige huis. Knus!

Op zondag 22 mei keert de band terug naar poppodium Volt, en dit concert belooft historisch te worden. Ze zijn van plan het hele concert op te nemen en als (debuut) live-album uit te brengen. Als je Led Zeppelin of Pink Floyd had kunnen zien vlak voordat ze beroemd werden… Moet je in de kamer zijn terwijl ze een album opnemen… Nou, dat zou een interessant verhaal zijn voor de kleinkinderen, nietwaar?

Dit is je kans om The Gulls te vangen, voordat ze vliegen. Maak je klaar om te voelen, te dansen en los te gaan! Écht los!!! Om eerlijk te zijn, we nemen geen enkele verantwoordelijkheid voor de gevolgen van dit hoe wild het zal gaan… Maar weet je wat?, de beste dingen in ’t leven hebben altijd hun risico’s……

These days, there aren’t many bands that live the true rock’n’roll life. Touring for months on end, 4 of them piled into one campervan, alongside their manager and an ever changing rota of groupies. Living out on the road, The Gulls are probably one of the craziest bands in Europe right now, and rumor has it that Limburg’s supply of whiskey is already beginning to reach dangerously low levels.

They first came to poppodium Volt in 2020, selling out a seated show in the heart of the pandemic. That’s right, The Gulls were touring in their campervan even at that time! It was a night of eclectic rock, folk and blues, filled with stories of secret concerts in the German forests and smuggling across borderlines. 

In April this year, over in the UK, the band took their unique approach to new levels. Playing unauthorised concerts on the streets and beaches, the band managed to create a convoy traveling across the country with them. It was an experiment designed to bring spontaneity and excitement back to live music, and they even managed to raise money for charity along the way. At some points there were more than 20 people piled into their humble home. Cosy

We’re thrilled to see the band making their return to poppodium Volt on the 22nd of May, and this concert promises to be historic. They intend to record the entire concert to be released as a live album. If you could have seen Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd just before they got famous… Got to be there in the room as they recorded an album… Well, that would be quite the story for the grandkids wouldn’t it?
